Playing God with Polyphia

Cheese > Salad

Here’s your twice-a-week reminder to seek inspiration in your day-to-day (no matter how small), create something of your own (no matter how small), and take stock of what makes you happy.

Don’t wait until you’re retired or “made it” to prioritize the things that really matter. Retirement probably won’t be a thing in our generation(s) anyway, and it takes practice to get to know yourself.

Mistakes were made in wallets we did not control

It was (typical) crazy week in crypto as Multichain finally packed up its bags and closed up, impacting countless other people and organizations who built on top of it.

When the CEO of Multichain, Zhaojun, was taken by the Chinese police in May, it was discovered that he had all the company servers running on his personal cloud server account (a big no no). This cloud server account was later used by someone to drain funds from the protocol.

The tl;dr is that there are a lot of really useful applications of crypto, but we need better ways of verifying all the security components of all this new infrastructure. Easier said than done.

On a side note, Cointelegraph wrote a full article on this and provides readers the option to collect the article as an NFT to “preserve this moment in history and show your support for independent journalism in the crypto space.”

nice marketing lingo you got there

While I’m not particularly inclined to pay to collect this article myself, it’s v interesting to see all the different use cases popping up around NFTs. Honestly, some Tweets are so iconic in this space that I could see this working for that.

Bang your head (to this song)

Photo cred to Rude Records

My husband, an unsuspecting metal head, showed me, a non-metal head, this band that is absolutely delightfully insane.

Regardless of whether you think you like metal, this song will probably at least make you raise your eyebrows and tap your feet. Creating otherworldly guitar licks that creatively pull from multiple genres of music, Polyphia takes you on a “rafting trip through the cerebrospinal fluid that flows maniacally through the brain of an evil genius.”

Polyphia is not only the biggest, but also the best metal band in the world. No other act has managed to marry a masterful command of melody with hip hop rhythms and dark and sinister tones in such an enticing way – and they’ve done so without the crutch of sing-along vocals…

The level of innovation exhibited on New Levels New Devils is nothing new for Polyphia. Their previous EP – 2017’s The Most Hated – explored the potential intersections between electronic dance music and pioneering guitar rock in a way that had never been attempted before. Upon its release on Equal Vision Records, it went on to reach #6 on the Billboard “Independent Label Release” charts and cracked the top ten for the “Current Rock” charts.

Let’s test out your auditory capacity

Task: listen to one of their songs below and then a cover of that same song and you tell me if you can tell that all the artists are sick. I highly recommend watching the videos of both too.

This is the original:

This is the cover:

I showed my boss these videos and his first response was to ask, “are you sure this isn’t a deepfake”.

The end.
